The folk music revival of the ‘50s and ‘60s inspired a whole generation to take up the guitar, so it can’t be set aside in any serious study of guitar music. American acts like The Weavers, The Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, and British artists like Ewen MacColl paved the way the great folk and folk/rock guitar masters like Davy Graham, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch and Richard Thompson. Meanwhile, folk offshoots like Lonnie Donegan’s skiffle inspired a whole wave of ‘60s British rockers, starting with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
